Phil Minton / David Maranha / Gerard Lebik
ADVENT
Phil Minton – voice
David Maranha – organ
Gerard Lebik – generators
Music inspired by Melancholy of Resistance, Laszlo Krasznahorkai’s magisterial, surreal novel, depicts a chain of mysterious events in a small Hungarian town. A circus, promising to display the stuffed body of the largest whale in the world, arrives in the dead of winter, prompting bizarre rumours. Word spreads that the circus folk have a sinister purpose in mind, and the frightened citizens cling to any manifestation of order they can find – music, cosmology, fascism.

...A heads up on a strong release (LP) from David Maranha and Gerard Lebik, "anime pezzentelle" on Bocian Records. Dark, rich drones that almost seem to come from field sources but probably don't. Very immersive and enjoyable, good stuff...

I did not mention that I was showing the Minton / Maranha / Lebik trio at the Idealistyczny Festiwal in Warsaw - and it was very bad. So far and better, the improvised intricate one this year, this year, or maybe next year, during the Playback Play concerts of the Basilica of Jesus Cheese in Warsaw's Praga. The emotions that Minton's vocalizations let in in meditation, and the drone matter created by Maranha (organ) and Lebik (generator) are surprising - they create an image of weirdness, anxiety, and terror. The inspiration was the film Harmonie Werckmeister by Béla Tarr and Ágnes Hranitzky. If I can afford an unusual recommendation - from what you can do in life I have not heard. Neither live nor from the album. In addition, an addition to the edition.
