AER
AER – Compressed Air Sound Performance delves into the exploration of compressed air’s potential as an acoustic sound wave generator, specifically focusing on its ability to produce pure white noise. The performance utilizes compressed air as a sound source, leveraging the phenomenon of centrifugal force generated during air recoil to induce rotational motion in objects within the performance space. This simple gesture causes the acoustic white noise generator obtains ambisonic properties, and effectively define and shape the acoustic space within the architecture of the room where the performance unfolds.
The phenomenon of centrifugal force plays a pivotal role in the transformative nature of the performance. As compressed air is expelled, the recoil creates a rotational motion, imparting kinetic energy to objects placed strategically within the performance space. This motion results in a mesmerizing display of objects spinning and rotating, influenced by the dynamic forces at play. As the objects rotate, they interact with the surrounding air, generating fluctuations and modulations in the acoustic white noise, thus transforming the sound generator into an ambisonic sound object.
Through careful manipulation of compressed air, controlled release mechanisms, and precise object placement, AER – Compressed Air Sound Performance unlocks the potential for creating an immersive auditory experience. The resulting ambisonic sound object and the evolving acoustic space it shapes invite the audience to engage with sound in a profound and multisensory manner, pushing the boundaries of perception and exploring the profound relationship between sound, motion, and architectural context.
…and the differences are due to the thickening and dilution in individual things, and from the dilution comes fire, and from the thickening comes wind, then clouds, and from the still greater thickening comes water, then earth, then stones, and from them everything else, just as the soul … which is air, holds us in concentration, so also the whole world also surrounds us, when it is quite evenly distributed, then it is not visible to the eye, but reveals itself in the form of cold, heat, moisture and motion
is that which is incorporeal: and since we arise through its flow, it is necessary that it be infinite and abundant, so that it never runs out…
